Alfred Stephen
stephenAlfred Stephen, born in 1959, Professor of Homiletics in Tamilnadu Theological Seminary, India. 


Born in a historical religiously rich place called Madurai, he went to Hindustan Bible Institute and Tamilnadu Theological Seminary for graduate studies.  He pursued his post graduate studies in the United Theological College, Bangalore, specializing in Homiletics.  His post graduate level research was on the preaching of Bishop Desmond Tutu, focusing on the liberation aspect and impetus for preaching in India.  After working in the same College for three years, he started his doctoral research at the University of Basel, Switzerland under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Albrecht Groezinger.  He wrote his dissertation on Intercultural Homiletics and received the Doctor Theol degree.

At present he is a professor of Homiletics and Academic Dean of Graduate Studies at the Tamilnadu Theological Seminary.  He is also the founder of Ecumenical Centre for Homiletic Orientation (ECHO) a Centre which promotes Homiletic concerns among the Laity and Clergy.  He is directly involved in the training.  He has authored Intercultural Preaching 2009 and Preacher's Guide: Elements of Preaching (ECHO) 2009.  Alfred’s wife Rathini is a medical Doctor heading an organization called Nightingale.  Alfred and Rathini are blessed with two children.  Their daughter Irene is trained to be a Bio Medical Engineer at the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), and son Sammy is in 9th grade in the Kodaikanal International School.
